Goodbye Facebook

“I get bombarded with game requests all the freaking time, and clearing them out is like cleaning spam out of your email inbox. Of all the old friends that I’ve gotten in touch with on the site, what has happened over the years? Nothing. So, what was the point?”

What Facebook has taught me, is: My relative’s lives on the web are utterly uninteresting. They are ignorant of many many things that I consider important. They never get beyond playing stupid Facebook games. And while they never publish anything, they go to family celebrations and chat about the things that I published, in non-favourable ways.

Thank you very much.

My Facebook profile has been emptied at the beginning of January 2011. I’m still going to need the account for a while, because my Cydia purchases’ licenses are tied to it, but unless absolutely required, I’m not going to log in anymore.

I have made actual, real-life friends through blogging and Twitter. Before that, through mailing lists. And before that, through BBS systems. You know who you are. Facebook Friends, on the other hand? I doubt there’s even one who has noticed my disappearance at all.
